Free calls on 0800 number for BT mobile subscribers
Less than 1 month after BT announced that it would be making calls to 0870/0845 numbers free for its 14 million residential customers, the firm’s has recently announced that 0800 numbers will soon be free to call for its mobile customers. Just like BT has been the first company to provide free calls to 0845 number, BT has announce new offer for its BT mobile user of making free call on 0800 number. 0800 numbers have always been totally free to call from a UK landline, but now BT mobile subscribers can all make free on 0800 number. This decision has been welcomed by thousands of BT mobile user. It is reported that around £50 million a year is generated by other mobile companies on making calls on 0800 uk numbers.
Audrey Gallagher, of Consumer Focus, said: “With so many consumers using mobile phones rather than landlines to contact essential services, find information and seek help, it is more important than ever that they do so for free across all 0800 numbers. Consumer Focus calls on mobile phone operators to follow BT and stop making money out of 0800 calls.”
BT Retail consumer managing director John Petter said: “We think mobile customers are irritated by having to pay high rates to call ‘free’ 0800 numbers, so we have put our own house in order by making it free for any BT Mobile customer to call these numbers.”
BT, being the largest telecom company in UK, has also decided to have 0800 number for customer helpline so that customers can call for free from their landline.
